Wife Rules

Ok, so my friend Jenna over at Honey do introduced me to this blog called The Wife. She has some "wife rules" so to speak that she has lain out, and I have to say they are quite amusing. While not all of her rules are realistic or practical, I have to say I appreciate her drive to inspire today's wife to excellence. You know how it goes, after a couple years of marriage and several children later along with our hectic lives we can fall into some lazy habits, I being the first to admit it. I have chosen a couple of her rules that I will be posting in the near future and who knows I may come up with a few of my own.

J crew's new fall collection 2010

Here is a little sneak preview of J Crew’s new fall collection for 2010, and a brief interview with Jenna Lyons the mastermind behind the ever fabulous clothing line

"I love shorts," Lyons admits. "I think they're so cute and sexy, and people get this idea that you can't wear shorts after it gets chilly. I happen to love that look (with tights), and it extends your wardrobe." The predominant tone in the presentation was olive. "I'm olive obsessed," Lyons says. "My olive fixation goes back to wanting to touch on the military moment." The Girl Scout influence also extends to accessories, hair, and makeup. "We let her earn brooches instead of badges," says Lyons. The models had a barely made-up but slightly flushed look and kind of brilliant braided bed head."I first learned to do a fishtail braid at Girl Scout camp," she says, adding that for the models, "We took the idea that you slept in it for three days and got twigs and flowers in your hair.

We cant forget the men

With summer not even here yet its hard to think about fall. But I cant wait to see the new line in person and I love what I see so far. What do you think? Let me know.

A Fabulous Bridal Shower

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.

These happened to be the brides something blue and the entire shower was themed after the Louboutin lovelies. They very well deserve their own party -- and they make for a killer centerpiece, to boot.

Check out this amazing table spread. The tissue pom poms are Martha Stewart found at Micheal's

Mini milkshakes (love it)

Ahh popcorn in a party cone, makes me smile

Mini lemon-blueberry cupcakes (on stacked Tiffany boxes as a cake stand)

They made these peacock fascinators for their hair, and they did double duty as activity AND party favor.

Hope this gave you a little inspiration and some fun ideas.

(Thanks so much to jamierose blog for posting this amazing shower!)

White Truffle Popcorn

This post is for my friend Sarah who share's my affinity for a good bowl of popcorn. Not only do I love popcorn, I also love truffle oil. I recommend having a bottle on hand at all times. It is an amazing flavor enhancer to many savory dishes. This recipe is so yummy and would make a great Hors d'oeuvre or party favor. How about serving it in some adorable party cones at your next soirée

- makes 12 cups -

Ingredients

1/2 cup popcorn kernels

2 tablespoons canola oil

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

2 1/2 to 3 teaspoons white truffle oil

Sea Salt to taste

You can also toss in some freshly grated Parmesan to really boost the flavor

Here's the Procedure

1. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add a few kernels and cover. When they pop, add the rest of the kernels and cover. Shake the pot over the heat and cook until the popping stops, about 3 or 4 minutes. Pour the popcorn into a large bowl.

2. In a small bowl, combine the butter and the truffle oil. Drizzle over the popcorn and season with salt. Add Parmesan if desired.

Happy Snacking!

Restoration Hardware Baby and Child

Have you seen the new Restoration Hardware baby and child spring catalog? I must say I am quite impressed and I am absolutely loving their new collection. Restoration Hardware really stepped it up last spring with their new line of antique replicas and started shying away from the cookie cutter mission style furnishings that are a dime a dozen. It now looks like baby and child are following suit. Here are a couple of my favorite rooms and new pieces they have just added that I am totally drooling over.

Check out these fabulous pieces

I hope you can get a chance to browse through there website. I know you will find some things you love as well.
Enjoy!!

Easter brunch menu

Spinach and sausage strata
Mixed berries with sweetened creme friache
Ina gartens coconut cupcakes

Spinach and sausage strata
(10-oz) package frozen spinach, thawed
1 1/2 cups finely chopped onion (1 large)
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
8 cups cubed (1 inch) French or Italian bread (I usually use a 1-lb loaf, as I’ve found this yields 8 cups)
1 lb. sweet Italian chicken or turkey sausage (optional)
6 oz coarsely grated Gruyère (2 cups)
2 oz finely grated Parmigiano-Reggiano (1 cup)
2 3/4 cups milk
9 large eggs
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard (sometimes I use whole-grain mustard for a variation)
Directions
Wash and finely chop the greens (if you’re using frozen spinach, squeeze handfuls of it dry and then finely chop.)
Cook the onion in the butter in a large saucepan until it begins to soften.
Add the sausage, if using, and cook until the sausage is no longer pink. Add 1/2 tsp salt,1/4 tsp pepper and the ground nutmeg, and cook 1 minute. Add the greens and cook until they’re wilted and tender (if you’re using frozen spinach, this will only take about 1 minute; if you’re using another kind of dark leafy green, it will take a little longer.) Remove from the heat.
Butter a 3-qt gratin dish or other large ceramic baking dish. Spread 1/3 of the bread cubes in the bottom of the dish, top with 1/3 of the spinach mixture, then with 1/3 of both of the cheeses. Repeat the layering 2 more times, ending with the cheeses.
Ina's Coconut cupcakes (the best!)
3/4 pound (3 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
2 cups sugar
5 extra-large eggs at room temperature
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoons pure almond extract
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup buttermilk
14 ounces sweetened, shredded coconut
For the frosting:
1 pound cream cheese at room temperature
3/4 pound (3 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon pure almond extract
1 1/2 pounds confectioners' sugar, sifted
Directions

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugar on high speed until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. With the mixer on low speed, add the eggs, 1 at a time, scraping down the bowl after each addition. Add the vanilla and almond extracts and mix well.
In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In 3 parts, alternately add the dry ingredients and the buttermilk to the batter, beginning and ending with the dry. Mix until just combined. Fold in 7 ounces of coconut.
Line a muffin pan with paper liners. Fill each liner to the top with batter.
Bake for 25 to 35 minutes, until the tops are brown and a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for 15 minutes.
Remove to a baking rack and cool completely.
Meanwhile, make the frosting. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, on low speed, cream together the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla and almond extracts. Add the confectioners' sugar and mix until smooth.
Frost the cupcakes and sprinkle with the remaining coconut
Happy Easter!!!
